At Can Do, we attach great importance to the exchange with students and the opportunity to share our knowledge of modern technologies. We were therefore all the more pleased to be invited by Aalen University to give a guest lecture in the Master's program on January 28, 2025. Our CEO and Head of Development Thomas Schlereth gave exciting insights into the current trends in artificial intelligence (AI) in project management and presented practical examples.

Why AI in project management?

Project management is complex and requires the consideration of countless factors - from resource availability to schedules and risks. This is where AI comes in: It can analyze large amounts of data, recognize patterns and make informed recommendations. The evolution of technology shows how AI is becoming increasingly powerful.

From simple visualizations in the first generation to complex, AI-controlled project machines of the future, the technology is going through several stages of development:

• Current AI technologies (e.g. reinforcement learning) already enable recommendations for action today.
• Future AI generations will plan projects entirely from text concepts and perform adaptive control.

Practical examples: AI in action

Thomas Schlereth used specific use cases to show how AI is already being used in project management today:

• Resource planning: AI helps to avoid overloads and suggests alternative allocations.
• Risk management: Through predictive analyses, the software recognizes potential risks at an early stage and provides recommendations for action.
• Business intelligence: AI recognizes anomalies in projects and helps to predict trends.

Particularly impressive is Can Do's ability to create realistic plans even with imprecise data - a challenge that many companies face.

A lively exchange with the students

The presentation ended with an open Q&A session in which the students took the opportunity to share their thoughts. It was exciting to see the questions that arose about the role of AI in everyday working life - from ethical aspects to the question of whether AI will replace the traditional project manager.
