Inspiring insights at the PMI Austria Chapter's PM Forum Day

The PM Forum Day of the PMI® Austria Chapter took place on November 13, 2024 - an inspiring day full of new perspectives and insights into the latest trends in project management. One highlight was the presentation by Thomas Schlereth, CEO of Can Do GmbH, who presented the synergies of AI and BI for modern project management.

PMI Forum Day in 2024

AI & BI in combination

In his presentation, Thomas Schlereth impressively demonstrated how the combination of AI and BI helps companies to plan projects more strategically, identify risks at an early stage and make targeted use of opportunities.

His central message:

"The future of project management is data-driven - and AI and BI are the keys to this."

The basics of AI and BI in project management

What is AI in project management?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is used in project management to analyze data in a targeted manner and make action-oriented recommendations(more on this in our white paper):

  • True information is crucial: AI requires high-quality and valid data in order to deliver precise results.
  • A lot of data is helpful, but not absolutely necessary: AI can also achieve helpful results with less data.
  • Data from everyday work: Most relevant data is generated through daily work and flows automatically into the system.
  • Real-time calculations: AI permanently calculates numerous scenarios and analyzes risks in real time.
  • Risk assessment: Probability values for potential risks are provided at an early stage.
  • Problem solving: AI not only helps to identify problems, but also provides solutions.

What is BI in project management?

Business intelligence (BI) offers tools for data-based support in project management(more on this in our blog):

  • Data analyses from a data warehouse: BI collects data from various sources and summarizes it in comprehensive analyses.
  • Dashboards for an overview and decision-making: BI prepares the analyses in visually appealing dashboards that facilitate quick and well-founded decisions.
  • Graphical presentation of data: Information is prepared visually to make patterns and trends clear.
  • Trend analyses: BI identifies developments and shows potential for action in the future.
  • Anomaly detection: BI identifies deviations from typical patterns that indicate potential problems or opportunities.

Practical examples and findings

Can Do combines artificial intelligence (AI) and business intelligence (BI) to make modern project management more efficient and targeted. From optimized resource utilization and automated reporting to data-driven decision-making - the benefits are manifold.

Efficient resource allocation thanks to AI
AI analyses capacities and bottlenecks in real time, optimizes the use of resources and avoids overloads through early warnings.

Automated reporting
Automated reports save time, integrate real-time data and provide precise, standardized evaluations that serve as a basis for well-founded decisions.

Data-driven decision-making with BI
BI dashboards visualize complex data, identify anomalies and trends and support strategic planning with clear, data-based insights.

We have put together a picture gallery that illustrates these practical examples and shows how Can Do uses AI and BI for effective and modern project management.

Possibilities and limitations

  • Potential of AI and BI: The combination of these approaches opens up enormous opportunities - from optimizing resource utilization to precise risk assessment. Especially in the area of trend analysis and anomaly detection, AI-supported solutions can provide valuable insights and thus enable proactive action.
  • Implementation challenges: Despite the impressive benefits, some hurdles remain. High data quality is essential in order to achieve valid results. At the same time, the integration of new technologies requires openness and acceptance within the organization - both decisive factors for long-term success.

Inspiration, exchange and networking

In addition to the inspiring presentations, the event offered a great platform for personal exchange. From conversations with industry colleaguesto new connections with experts - the networking opportunities were a highlight for all participants.

Kudos to the PMI Austria Chapter, especially Franz Brocza, Dirk Withake and the entire organizing team. With a smooth organization and an excellent selection of speakers, they made this day a real success.

The PM Forum Day 2024 has once again shown how important exchange is in the project management community. Such events not only create space for knowledge transfer, but also inspire new ideas and solutions.

We look forward to the next one! 🚀
